Let's Talk About #Horny

In February of 2016, 2 years ago, I decided to make my first game and this was the first one.

I'd been lurking and playing cool and interesting games on itchio for the first time. If I'm honest, I don't know what brought me here. I was working as a blogger/copywriter for a marketing company and I was very bored. Day in and day out, all alone, writing about HVAC, law, roofing, and other small businesses and for some reason, in February, I decided to make a game. I was going to make my first Twine game. I would spend hours not only learning the language, but on coding sites, because I wanted to make this real. I wanted to make this like my real experience sexting on Tumblr when I was bored.

So I made a game about it.

It was ambitious and crazy and it took so long and the CSS and HTML was way more complicated than anything I'd ever done. Programming wasn't something I was good at. I got a D in Intro to Javascript in College. Somehow though, I copied and pasted my way into this game.

I've made several games since then, none of them close to this subject matter, but none of them have been this popular. To this day, my first game is the most popular one. It isn't particularly sophisticated, the scrolling and iframe is a little off, but it clearly taps into something. While it has few ratings or even comments, it is more popular than any of my other games:

It is in 28 collections, has 3,098 views, and 68 downloads. Unlike anything else I have worked on, there are views of this game nearly every single day:

While it ultimately fell through and I got ghosted, I even sent in this game as a job application for an app, and I got the job because of this game. It's so strange that it is my most popular creation and the first thing that I ever made. Of course, in the future I plan to make it more polished (maybe a paid version), but with the addition of Post Mortem Devlogs, I felt I had to write one. Because, even though the content is not necessarily what i want to focus on, I am super grateful that people like playing this.

It is based on real experiences and I am glad that people are having fun playing this. Maybe they're just searching NSFW games to get off but either way, I wanted to say thank you. I have no intention of making other NSFW games for the time being,  but I am glad that people enjoy it. It was the first time coding made sense to me and it was great to bring that feeling of sexting to life, with a female protagonist, in this format.

It's cool to look at these numbers and see how much it has grown, and how much I've grown working on small games, in the 2 years (!) I've been trying to make things of this manner. I am still a one person operation, and I am glad if you got joy from this game, or any other games I've created. This is a thank you and a cool look behind the curtain and behind the analytics.

I hope you enjoyed it!
